Is it normal for Bug Bites to become bruises?

I’ve been getting bug bites lately and my reaction to them has become very strange. I will receive what seems to be a Bug Bite and the next day it swells up and spreads. I don’t itch them and have used many types of creams for bug bites. A couple days later like magic the swelling goes down but there is a huge purple bruise. This has happen several times in the past two weeks. I would like to know what is going on.

There are a variety of Insect Bites that do this – the most common are tiny black flies that include things people call sand flies and noseeums. Black flies inject an anesthetic that prevents you from feeling the bite, along with a hemolytic chemical that prevents blood from clotting. The anti-clotting chemical causes blood to leak out of the capillaries several days after the bite. The bleeding causes dime- to nickel-sized bruises that usually disappear in less than a week after they appear. There is nothing you can do to stop the bruising once you have been bitten. The only way to deal with black fly bites is to avoid getting bitten.
